I wanted to spread awareness of the Sewol ferry tragedy. I meant to visualize the pain of both the victims and the survivors. I was making origami in art class when I was inspired by the paper boat that I was making. In my drawing, a girl in color holds a yellow paper boat while the ghost of a victim tries to console her. It emphasizes the sorrow of both friends. Also, looking closely at the water, there is no reflection of the yellow girl, further implying that she is a ghost. I hope that through this piece, more people become aware so that no event like this can happen again. As I live in the United States, I realized that almost no one knows of the Sewol ferry tragedy. My hope is that more people internationally can acknowledge this tragedy and emphasize with the victims and survivors as well as their families.

저는 세월호 참사를 널리 알리고 싶었씁니다. 제 작품을 통해 희생자와 생존자 모두의 아픔을 시각화하고 싶었습니다. 미술 시간에 제가 만들고 있는 종이배에서 영감을 얻게 되었습니다. 제 그림에서는 희생자들의 영혼이 노란 종이배를 들고 있는 소녀를 위로하는 모습을 표현함으로 두 친구의 애절함을 강조하고 있습니다. 물을 자세히 보면 노란 소녀의 모습이 반사되어 있지 않아 그녀가 희생자의 영혼임을 암시하고 있습니다. 제 작품을 통해 많은 이들이 이런 참사가 더 이상 일어나서는 안된다는 경각심을 가지기를 바랍니다. 제가 살고 있는 미국에서는 세월호 참사를 아는 사람이 거의 없다는 것을 깨달았습니다. 세계에 더 많은 사람들이 이 참사를 알고 희생자들과 희생자 가족들의 아픔과 공감할 수 있기를 바랍니다.
