I was first inspired by the yellow ribbons I saw everywhere: on TV, books, on clothes, and on the artworks from last year. I knew a little bit about this incident, but thanks to this opportunity, I did some research and learned so much about it. I was so sad and mad at the same time, and I wanted to show how I really truly feel about the students in my drawing. My intention was to connect the word "remember" with the Sewol Ferry disaster, represented by the ribbon. Also the butterflies in the background represent the students that died during the Sewol Ferry disaster. The students that died on April 16, 2014, are often remembered as yellow butterflies. This is because when the incident was just happening, a group of college students in Korea made yellow butterflies in hopes of the students returning home safely. In addition to this, black and yellow colored butterflies generally represent hope, death, rebirth, soul awakening, and happiness. I wanted to represent the 304 students, 299 dead and 5 missing, as butterflies -- that we will never forget in hopes of them coming back alive. We will always remember them in our hearts as butterflies.

우선 TV, 책, 옷, 작년에 제출된 작품등등에 늘 함께 있었던 노란 리본에서 처음 영감을 받았습니다. 이 사건에 대해 잘 알지 못했는데 이 기회 덕분에 많은것을 배우게 되었습니다. 알면 알수록 너무 슬프고 화가 났습니다., 전 제 그림에서 학생들에 대한 저의 진정한 마음을 보여주고 싶었습니다. 제 작품의도는 리본으로 대표되는 세월호 참사와 "기억"이라는 단어를 연결하는 것이 었습니다. 또한 배경의 나비는 세월호 참사 당시 사망한 학생들을 나타냅니다. 2014년 4월 16일에 죽은 학생들은 종종 노란 나비로 기억됩니다. 사건이 일어난 지 얼마 되지 않았을때에 한국의 대학생들이 세월호 학생들이 무사히 돌아 오기를 바라는 마음으로 노란 나비를 만들었기 때문입니다. 이 외에도 검은색과 노란색의 나비는 일반적으로 희망, 죽음, 재생, 영혼 각성 및 행복을 나타냅니다. 저는 304명의 학생, 299명의 사망자, 5명의 실종자를 나비로 표현하고 싶었습니다. 그들이 살아서 돌아오기를 바라는 우리는 결코 그들을 잊을수가 없을 것입니다. 그들은 저희들 마음 속에 나비로 늘 기억되어질 것입니다.
